Here is a great paper about the biogeography of the nine-banded armadillo (and a tiny bit of information about the other armadillo species):

  1. Here's info on Spectacled Bear, Tremarctos ornatus, a South American immigrant to the fossil beds in Florida. Current distribution Andes, from W Venezuela to Bolivia: various habitats, but prefers humid forests; will use grasslands at high elevations and scrub at low elevations. Epiphytic bromeliads make up a major portion of their diet; they are arboreal, and this species is the sole surviving member of the subfamily Tremarctinae in the family Ursidae. Males 1.3-2.1m height, stand 70-90cm at shoulder; commonly 130kg, but can get up to 200kg. Females much smaller, 35-65kg. Gestation: 240-255 days, Longevity to 20-25 years in captivity. Not known for certain in wild.
